Biomass-based energy sources are needed along with the depletion of fossil fuel availability. Laban (Vitex pubescens) has a quite good potential as a provider of quality biomass energy equivalent to the Kaliandra plant (Caliandra callothyrsus) which is very good in the biomass energy field. Laban has the advantage of high calorific value and a lot of buds so it can provide biomass relatively quickly. Utilization of unknown species and non-commercial of Laban wood causes information about this species cultivation to be limited. This paper aime to describe information abaout Laban related to characteristics as an energy source, cultivation efforts, and other uses. This study was conducted by collecting data from various related literature such as journals, proceedings, reports, and others. The results showed that Laban is a type of wood with a calorific value is around 7,220 cal/g or 4,279,75 kCal/kg. it is highly dependent on the main biochemical components of wood such as cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin, extractives, and other ash-forming mineral substances. Laban can be cultivated generatively through dry extracted seeds. Laban seed germination can be done using a combination of soil and compost media. Laban wood is widely used by the community as firewood, liquid smoke for anti-crawling, and part of Laban wood bark is used as a tea replacement drink and is efficacious as a medicine for colic, colds, and body freshener.
